The talk begins at 5:30PM, Everyone is welcome!
The ‘Deer Isle Journal’ is a special project in the current exhibition, Light Source. The two accomplished landscape painters will share about their experience of painting together on Deer Isle, and their creative process! Please join me at 5:30 for their presentation and an opportunity to see the exhibition, Light Source.
Susan Cohen writes that "through the act of looking and painting, the artist seeks an underlying poignancy in the random and arranged appearance of things." Looking at her work one can recognize the influence of Fairfield Porter and Lois Dodd. Cohen and Marilyn Turtz are both based in New York City and have traveled to paint together in Deer Isle, Maine for over a decade. Turtz explains, 'the places depicted in my paintings are not, in themselves, remarkable nor are they the actual subject of the paintings. The actual subject is the moment in which light reveals the arrangement of forms, gestures and tonalities in a way that resonates with me."
