My work combines the basic elements of nature with man’s mark on the landscape. I am infuenced by the elements of coastal living, and my colors reflect the coastal atmosphere. The forms and shapes I use are distillations of man-made structures. The impact of humanity on nature is what interests me. It is in the studio that impressions of what I have seen combine with the physicality of the paint.

I feel a connection to artists that inspire me, particularly Richard Diebenkorn, Philip Guston, Robert Ryman, Willem de Kooning, Mark Rothko.

I am originally from Oakland, California and attended the San Francisco Art Institute in the late 1960s to early 1970s.
