Artist Statement

.This group of recent oil paintings are a continuation of last year’s exploration of improvised images that integrate abstract and pictorial elements. Color, as always, is central to my work and each picture in this group has its own specific kind of light. Friends have described them as ‘whimsical’. 

David Hornung is a painter and professor of art. He has taught painting, drawing, and color at many art schools and universities including Indiana University, Parsons, Pratt, Skidmore College, Brooklyn College, the Rhode Island School of Design and Adelphi University. He lives and paints in Woodstock, New York.
